Liu Yunshan, senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Monday called for the media to help build trust among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China, Japan and Republic of Korea (ROK).

Liu, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the comment during his meeting with delegates from ASEAN, Japan and ROK, who were in China to attend the 6th 10+3 media seminar, which was launched in 2007.

Liu stressed the media's role in promoting exchanges and cooperation in the region, calling on the media to increase exchanges in personnel and news products, enhance mutual understanding and trust among people in 10+3 countries.

Liu said a stable and tranquil region meets China's development needs and is a common aspiration of peace-loving neighboring nations.

The CPC and the Chinese government would like to implement the ideal of closeness, sincerity, reciprocity and inclusiveness, and work with ASEAN and East Asian countries to safeguard regional and world peace and stability, Liu said.

Liu also briefed foreign delegates on the decision of deepening reforms approved at the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee in November.

The media delegates were in Beijing after concluding their annual seminar in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province.
