Zhang Kunpeng, the so-called "killer courier," was executed yesterday for the murder of shopping-loving singer Fu Li in late July 2012, Beijing News reported.
According to previous reports, 30-year-old Fu had a habit of shopping online, which led her regular courier, 29-year-old Zhang Kunpeng, to believe she was a very wealthy woman. This assumption made him set out to rob her.
Fu had loved singing ever since she was a child so she went to Beijing to become a singer. She bought a lot of things online so couriers would frequently turn up on her doorstep.
When Zhang left his job at a courier company, he wanted to get some more money before returning home. In a cruel twist of fate, he then apparently thought of Fu, a woman he'd always encountered home alone.
On the evening of July 30, he lied to the victim that he had a delivery for her and made her open the door. As soon as he certain she was home alone, he used a knife to threaten her, tied her hands and clutched his hands around her neck, eventually choking her to death.
Zhang took 1,600 yuan with him, according to Beijing's local court, subsequently removed Fu's clothes, staged a rape scenario and escaped. He was later arrested when on the train back home and received his guilty verdict and death sentence on March 22, 2013.
Fu was a professional but lesser famous singer, though she did once collaborate with music icon Jay Chou's long-time lyricist Vincent Fong on a song entitled "Cloudlet and Breeze."
