A 13-year-old boy in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, won an award for his paper on how to efficiently use laundry detergent, Modern Gold Newspaper reported on Wednesday.
Fang Liangyu, a pupil of Cixi Experimental Primary School, became interested in the subject one day when he saw his mother washing clothes.
"I wanted to know why the clothes were washed clean with the powder and how we can efficiently use the powder to wash clothes much cleaner," Fang said.
He spent two days conducting tests and wrote an essay of about 3,000 words with more than 10 diagrams to report his results. With his paper, Fang won second place at a science and technology innovation contest held for the city's adolescents.
