To further her son's education, a woman named Cao Haili purchased fake temporary residence permits for 100 yuan ($16.48) in Changping district, violating the law prohibiting the selling and buying of government-issued identification. Cao stood for trial last week, the Beijing News reported.
Cao was caught by the police while attempting to purchase the fake documents from two sellers. During the trial, Cao said she has a 14-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son. Up until now, she and her husband have lived and worked in Beijing without temporary residence permits, but she needed the documents to allow her son to attend school. Because Cao admitted her guilt, prosecutors have recommended probation.
