Phase 3 of metro Line 13 to begin construction in 2014

The third phase of metro Line 13 will begin construction next year, extending the east-to-west line's reach across the city.

The first phase of metro Line 13, completed at the end of last year, runs from Jinyun Road in Jiading district to Jinshajiang Road in Putuo district, and has six stations in total.

Phase 2, which is under construction and due to be completed in 2015, will link with Huaxia Road Middle in Pudong New Area.

The third phase of the project will start from Huaxia Road Middle and ends at Zhangjiang Road, improving links between Zhangjiang High Tech Park and the city center.

The third phase will cross with Line 12, which is also under construction. Line 12 runs from Minhang district to Pudong New Area. The two lines are expected to relieve pressure on Line 2, which is currently the main metro conduit for commuters between Puxi and Pudong.

Metro Line 13 will have 31 subway stations in total when it is completed in 2017.
