The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection recently issued an order forbidding the use of public funds to purchase fireworks or to give them as gifts for celebrating Spring Festival. Consequently, fireworks companies, even those selling new, less-polluting products, have produced less inventory than they have for previous years, the Beijing Morning Post reported.
Two companies, Xiongmao and Doudou, have introduced eco-firecrackers, which are smokeless, have no residue, no sulfur component and no paper waste. The eco-friendly firecrackers are also more expensive, costing about 60 yuan each ($9.88), while traditional ones are sold for 40 yuan.
