Beijing authorities have recently issued new standards for fireworks in order to cope with the potential air pollution they cause. In response to the new standards, manufacturers have introduced environmentally friendly fireworks. Less smoke, less odours, and less scraps of paper.

Consumers will see these new environmentally friendly fireworks on the market soon with the holiday season just around corner.

These new fireworks will probably give some relief to the air pollution that's been a headache for both the government and people in many Chinese cities.

Setting off fireworks during traditional festivals has been a long running controversy, due to the spikes in pollution they cause.

New techniques were introduced into the production of these green fireworks which help keep traditions alive while limiting the smog it causes.

This is a traditional firecracker, it was wrapped by paper, and sealed with mud, it will cause large amounts of smoke as well as debris... The new ones are made of special paper, and no sulphur was used in the entire production. After being lit, they will give off less smoke and will leave almost no scraps. All these fireworks have been labelled environmentally friendly.

Although various choices will be out there on the market, and prices will remain relatively low, fireworks stocks this year have dropped compared to last.

In order to cope with record smog, Beijing has issued an emergency plan to curb air pollution, including a ban on fireworks when the city sees three straight days of heavy smog.
