Pupil attempted suicide after accused of theft

A grade 5 primary school pupil in Jiangmen, Guangdong province, is in hospital after emergency surgery following an attempted suicide after being falsely accused of stealing from her teacher.

The pupil, surnamed Wu, was wrongly accused of stealing 2,000 yuan ($330) from her teacher, who later found the money, Guangzhou Daily reported.

Wu jumped off the school building on Dec 11 and suffered serious injuries. She underwent emergency surgery and is being cared for in hospital.

The previous day, Wu faced accusations of theft when her teacher, surnamed Tan, misplaced the money.

Tan later found the money in a drawer.

Li Ronghong, headmaster of Jiangnan Primary School, has offered to resign.

Wu's parents said that Tan had to bear full responsibility for their daughter's injuries.
