Health authorities in China confirmed on Wednesday the first human case of H10N8 bird flu in the country, making it possibly the first such case in the world. The virus was contracted by an elderly woman in East China's Jiangxi province.
The woman died earlier this month. H10N8 is one of the 15 known strains of bird flu. This is the first time this strain has been discovered in humans.
Meanwhile, in the province of Guangdong, there have been 4 new confirmed cases of another strand of bird flu, H7N9, in just the past few days.
