Health authorities in south China's Guangdong province are on high alert against H7N9 bird flu after six human cases were confirmed this week. Guangdong has launched an emergency monitoring plan and announced 130 designated hospitals.
"Guangdong faces a high risk of sporadic human H7N9 infections. But the risk of an epidemic is very low. We're now focusing on lowering the risk of exposure in poultry markets and reduce deaths." Zhang Yonghui, director of Guangdong Disease Control Center, said.
