A couple, both county-level officials, were arrested for accepting bribes in Heyuan city, Guangdong province, on Tuesday, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily.
Zhong Weimin, a former standing member of the Heyuan City Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and a former deputy secretary-general of Heyuan city government, and his wife Yan Cailan, were removed from their posts at the end of September after local residents reported that they had taken large bribes.
Yan was a former deputy director of the city bureau of housing and urban planning.
But the newspaper did not reveal details of the case, saying the investigation was ongoing.
Zhong and Yan were both promoted to county-level officials on July 4, 2012. But the couple were sacked about a year later.
