Miao Ruilin was appointed acting mayor of Nanjing, capital of the eastern coastal province of Jiangsu, at a meeting of the Nanjing Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee on Thursday.
Miao, 49, a native of Rudong, Jiangsu, is deputy secretary of the Nanjing municipal committee of the Communist Party of China and vice governor of Jiangsu.
Ji Jianye, former mayor of Nanjing, was removed from his post when he came under investigation for serious disciplinary violations in October.
Ji is one of many senior officials removed from their posts over disciplinary or legal matters in the past year.
