Starting from September, Beijing residents will be drinking water diverted from the Hanjiang River, a tributary of the Yangtze River, through the middle line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the Beijing News reported.
The water will be piped to homes by the city's underground pipe circles, currently under construction. Meanwhile, Beijing is also upgrading its water plant facilities to connect with the water diversion project.
As a city that is chronically short of water resources, Beijing will greatly benefit from the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, one of China's infrastructure projects aimed at bringing water resources from the Yangtze and Yellow rivers to the North.
