Police in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province, seized 250,000 bottles of fake liquor and wine in a case involving nine suspects.
The suspects counterfeited high-end alcoholic beverages including Moutai and Wuliangye, using cheap alcohol and chemicals. The cost of each fake bottle of Moutai was only 10 yuan ($1.65), when the genuine article sells for up to 1,500 yuan, Nanjing Morning Post reported on Thursday.
The value of the counterfeit liquor and wine was 12 million yuan, and the fake beverages were sold in seven provinces, including Hubei and Jiangsu.
The police are still investigating the case, the report said.
