Dozens of overseas Chinese and representatives from Chinese communities have gathered outside Japan's consulate general in New York to protest against Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to the Yasukuni Shrine.

The demonstrators urged Japanese leaders to face the country's World War Two history and warned against returning to militarism. They also delivered a letter addressed to Abe, condemning his visit to the Yasukuni Shrine, where Class-A war criminals from World War II are honored. Abe's December 26th visit came despite strong opposition beforehand from China and other Asian countries.
