Two suspects allegedly involved in five cases of blackmailing drunk cab drivers were detained by Fengtai district police, the Beijing Daily reported.
The police said that suspects surnamed Qin and Li faked traffic accidents and extorted money from intoxicated cab drivers. At 3 am on December 26, the suspects followed a drunk cab driver surnamed Shi, crashing into his taxi. Shi gave them 8,000 yuan to prevent them from calling the police. A week later, he himself notified the authorities, who caught the suspects on January 13. This case led to the discovery of several blackmail cases involving the suspects, who admitted to targeting drunk cab drivers, police said.
