The Beijing urban planning authority said on Wednesday that its most important work this year will be demolishing illegal buildings in the city, especially in urban-rural areas. [Special coverage]
Most illegal buildings have been constructed in the capital's urban-rural areas, or between the Fourth and Sixth Ring Roads, areas that are home to about 4 million migrant workers, according to Wang Fei, spokesman of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Planning.
"To ensure security in the areas and curb the population of the city, we decided continue making efforts to pull down illegal buildings there this year," Wang said at a press conference on Wednesday for the city's people's congress.
In addition, illegal constructions around airports, railways and tour attractions will be removed under the commission's plan, he added.
