More than a thousand buses were recently converted to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel, the Beijing Times reported.
The 1,080 clean energy buses will be put into use on 27 suburban bus lines in Tongzhou, Changping, Shunyi, Pinggu, Huairou and Daxing districts.
The LNG buses, which will replace diesel oil buses, have almost zero PM2.5 emissions. Each fuel container holds 300-400 liters of LNG, allowing the bus to cover 500 kilometers per day.
The city currently has 1,893 LNG buses. The Beijing Public Transport Holdings is planning to convert an additional 1,600 LNG buses and 351 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses this year.
