The Shanghai Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning confirmed a new case of the H7N9 bird flu Thursday.
The patient, a 61-year-old local woman, was diagnosed with the virus Wednesday. She remains in treatment.
Eight people have been infected with the virus this flu season. Four have died, Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong said at a press conference.
Yang reiterated that there is no evidence that the virus can spread between people.
