Eighty-four county or higher level Party and government officials were investigated in Yunnan province in 2013, up year-on-year 25.4 percent, Yunnan Information Times reported.
Of those, six were prefecture-level officials, according to Wang Tianhai, chief procurator of Yunnan Provincial High People's Procuratorate.
"Economic losses valued at more than 514 million yuan ($84.92 million) were retrieved after the procuratorial organs across the southwestern Chinese province investigated 1,596 duty crime cases, involving 1,935 Party and government officials, last year," Wang told legislators during the annual session of Yunnan Provincial People's Congress on Wednesday.
The number of duty crimes were investigated in Yunnan last year increased 6.1 percent from 2012, and 9.6 percent more officials were investigated.
Most of the duty crime cases investigated were in industries involved in banking, stocks, taxation, public security, environment protection, commerce and public health, Wang added.
