CPC campaign to further hone work style

The Communist Party of China (CPC) has vowed to continue with its endeavor to improve officials' work style and fight extravagance and corruption in 2014.

CPC officials are required to play a leading role in improving work style and reaching out to grassroots communities this year, concluded a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Friday.

The CPC will strive to tackle "waste on wheels" by pushing forward reform in the system governing use of official vehicles and it will ask for the return of extra offices seized by officials, according to a statement released after the meeting.

Budgets on vehicle purchasing and maintenance, overseas trips, official receptions and meetings will be scrutinized to cut waste, and supervision will be enhanced to stem "unhealthy trends" in training centers or rest homes owned by government organs and state-owned enterprises as well as in various clubs.

The CPC has also vowed to rein in spending by leading officials in state-owned enterprises and financial institutions.

The meeting, presided over by Chinese President Xi Jinping, reviewed a report on the implementation of China's "eight-point" bureaucracy and formalism-fighting guidelines.

The guidelines, introduced by a meeting of the Political Bureau in December 2012, urge CPC officials to resist pomp, ceremony and reduce bureaucratic visits and meetings.

The guidelines have "forcefully improved the work style of the CPC and government," according to the statement.

Extravagance and waste has been curbed, and expenses on vehicle purchasing and maintenance, overseas trips and official receptions is down as a result of the guidelines, it said.

However, the statement pointed out, some CPC members and officials have lacked initiative in implementing the guidelines, and "formalism and unbalanced work" in carrying out the guidelines has been observed in local government administrations and some departments.

Efforts must be made to ensure the full implementation of the guidelines and safeguard their authority and solemnity, the meeting underlined.
