There have been no major traffic accidents with 10 and more fatalities during the present Spring Festival travel rush as of Monday, China's traffic police said.
The number of fatalities and injuries have decreased by 40 percent and 29 percent compared to the same period of last year, and no large-scale traffic jam has happened since Jan. 16, when the rush began.
More and more people rush home for family reunions during the traditional Chinese lunar new year, with over 90 million road passengers every day.
Traffic police have been deployed over 180,000 times to maintain order, watching for speeding, overcrowding, fatigue and drunk driving. checking all passenger services vehicles and their drivers.
A traffic management official from the Ministry of Public Security warned that risks still exist, and increase as the travel peak nears.
