A man in Henan province gave gifts of money to the elderly in his home village for Spring Festival after he succeeded in his business, Dahe Daily reported on Wednesday.
Shi Shaohua, from the village of Xiezhai in Dancheng county, gave red envelopes stuffed with 300 yuan ($50) each to 190 villagers aged over 70 as a Spring Festival gift on Tuesday, the report said.
Shi left home to start his own business in the 1990s and now owns several companies in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
"When I was a child, my family was very poor. I got lots of help from the villagers, so I must thank them," the paper quoted Shi as saying.
To further thank the village, Shi has also employed more than 100 villagers in his companies, the report said.
"I just want to make contributions to my hometown, providing more warmth for society," he said.
