A man walked nine days to go home to Chongqing for Spring Festival before being stopped by traffic police on the expressway, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Li Ping, an alias, a native of Zhongxian county, took to the road as he was short of money to travel.
He was stopped by traffic police as he was walking on an expressway on Sunday. He was less than 100 kilometers from his home.
According to the police, Li makes his living by picking up trash and selling it in Guizhou province. With Spring Festival approaching, he only had 200 yuan ($32), which was not enough for a ticket home. He walked most of the way and was offered free rides at times.
The police bought him a bus ticket the rest of his way home.
