Hundreds of students from Chicago Public Schools (CPS) enjoyed Chinese songs, dances and martial arts brought by the performing troupe of the High School affiliated to Renmin University (RDF) in the auditorium of Walter Payton College Prep High School (WPCPHS) Wednesday.

The performing troupe of RDF will stage 14 performances in the United States during the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday.

"We are glad to use this platform to promote the friendship and communication between Chinese and U.S. students." said RDF Vice Principal Shen Xianzhang.

Students from the award-winning RDF performance troupe are aged between 11 to 17.

Tim Devine, Principal of WPCPHS, extended his welcome to visiting teachers and students, and praised their performance, saying that "Performances like this bring the Chinese culture and language to our students in all grades."

Students from Chicago CPS also presented their performances.

Zhao Weiping, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in Chicago, attended the performance. He said that more and more American students are learning Chinese language, and cultural exchanges like this will benefit students from both sides.

The event is jointly sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Culture, RDF, and the Confucius Institute in Chicago. Chicago is the second leg of the troupe's performance tour.
