Fresh Chinese investments in the Netherlands' West Holland region are expected to create 565 jobs, the West Holland Foreign Investment Agency (WFIA) said Wednesday.

According to its annual figures, the WFIA assisted 42 foreign companies, among them 14 from China, in establishing new offices or relocating in 2013, a record number in its 13-year history.

A principal Chinese newcomer was Chinese telecommunication firm Huawei, which is expanding its operations in The Hague and will eventually employ 350 people.

"I expect this trend to continue because Chinese companies based here will again generate new business activity from the Far East," Henk Kool, The Hague alderman and chairman of the WFIA's Board of Participants, said in a statement.

Marleen Zuijderhoudt, executive director of the WFIA said, "The success of our efforts with China didn't just happen overnight. The result has been achieved through long-term cooperation at both administrative and company levels."
