A man has been sentenced to four months in prison for driving with a blood-alcohol level that was more than four times the legal limit, Songjiang district prosecutors said Wednesday.
The defendant, surnamed Liu, from Henan Province, was drinking at dinner with two friends on December 21, 2013, according to a press release from the Songjiang District People's Prosecutor's Office.
Around 9 pm, Liu and his friends felt like having some milk tea, so Liu drove to a nearby milk tea stall on Tahui Road, prosecutors said. Liu parked his car in front of a tailor's shop, causing the shop owner to complain that the car was blocking the way into the shop.
The two started arguing, and the shop owner called the police. Liu drove away immediately, but police soon caught up to him.
A subsequent blood-alcohol test showed that Liu's blood-alcohol level was 3.53 milligrams per milliliter, nearly four-and-a-half times the legal limit of 0.8 milligrams per milliliter.
Songjiang District People's Court found Liu guilty of a drunk driving charge. It also fined him 4,000 yuan ($659).
