Russian men climb to top of Shanghai Tower

Police are looking into a case in which two Russian men filmed themselves climbing to the top of the Shanghai Tower, the second tallest building in the world, and then released the video online, according to the Pudong New Area Public Security Bureau's microblog Thursday.

Police said they were aware of the video and advised construction sites to strengthen their security. They also warned residents against trespassing at construction sites or climbing skyscrapers.

The two trespassers, Vadim Makhorov and Vitaliy Raskalov, climbed onto the tower crane sitting on top of the 650-meter-tall Shanghai Tower when no one was looking after the site during the Spring Festival holiday.

The two men wore hoodies and covered their faces with masks. They did not use ropes or other safety equipment during the climb.

By Thursday evening, the video of their climb had been viewed more than 137,000 times on ku6.com, a video sharing website.

Makhorov and Raskalov have posted other photographs online that show them climbing other skyscrapers in the city, including Bailian Shimao International Plaza near People's Park and Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower on Huaihai Road, xinmin.cn reported.

The Shanghai Tower's property owner expressed its regret about the incident and vowed to take measures to prevent it from happening again, according to the report.
