Police in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, helped a homeless man who left home 18 years ago reunite with his family, Qianjiang Evening News reported on Friday.

Police found the man on Feb 10 when he was looking for bottles in an ashcan at a metro station. The homeless man told police his name was A Bing and he was born in 1978 in Shanxi province, but he did not have an ID card. The police checked his family information in the police household system, and contacted his family.

The man, surnamed Zhao, left his home in Xixian county, Shanxi province, when he was 18 years old but, because he could not get an ID card, he was unable to find a job. Zhao said he was too ashamed to return home as he had not earned any money so he had no contact with his family in the past 18 years.

With help from the police, Zhao was finally reunited with his family during Spring Festival.
