Chinese Foreign Ministry and Chinese embassy in Zambia have launched emergency measures to provide assistance for victims following an attack on a Chinese firm in Zambia, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Friday.

One Chinese worker died and six others were injured when armed gunmen attacked a Chinese firm in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, embassy officials said on Thursday.

The Chinese ambassador to Zambia rushed to the hospital to comfort the injured and the family of the victim who died, asking the Zambian side to make all-out efforts to save the injured.

The embassy invited a Chinese assistance group of military surgeons and medical experts in Zambia to join the rescue work and called for Chinese nationals to donate blood for those with severe injuries, according to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying.

She said the embassy asked the Zambian side to crack the case as soon as possible and demand severe punishment for the killers.

China also urged Zambia to take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in Zambia.

Chinese Foreign Ministry and the embassy will watch the development of the incident closely and continue to provide support for handling the aftermath, Hua added.
