In a move to secure the best talents in the field of law, the Supreme People's Court held a public recruitment contest for the first time. So far 22 candidates have been selected from a total of 195 applicants competing for 5 high-level positions in China's highest judicial organ.
Interviews were held on Friday, and the interviewers included the candidates' future colleagues like current supreme people's court judges. The competition was tough with 80% of the candidates holding doctorate degrees in law. 12 of them are scholars of law, 7 are lawyers and 3 are current party and government personnel.
"The purpose of the selection is to expand the potential pool of judges, further optimize the structure of our court staff, and enhance the vitality of our team. This is kind of our first attempt. We used to mostly recruit from lower courts. In the future, we are looking to combine these methods to improve the makeup of our personnel." Kong Ling, Personnel Director of Political Department of Supreme People's Court, said.
