A farmer in Fushun county, Sichuan province who found his mother's birthday was wrongly registered on the household registration system has been unable to have it corrected despite applying to do so for six years, Western China Metropolis Daily reported on Monday.
Yang Kaifu, the farmer working as a migrant worker away from his hometown, sent money to his mother in 2008 but she could not get the money from a local bank, as her information shown in the police household registration system did not match that on her ID card. Yang returned home and discovered his mother's birth date was June 12, 1950, on her ID card but had been wrongly recorded as May 17, 1972, in the household registration system.
Yang was surprised to find the birth date information in the household registration system for him and his mother were the same day, which was his birth date.
Yang has applied for a correction of his mother's birth date for about six years, but the local police station said he did not have enough information for a correction.
The police station said the mistake might have been made when the household information system was updated in 2005.
Yang said his mother cannot access rural endowment insurance because of the mistake and he hopes that the police will pay compensation.
