Police have fingered a "QQ burglar" who pilfered a sofa, a cabinet, a table, a refrigerator and washing machine from a Chongqing businessman while he was away on holiday.
Chongqing cops on Sunday announced the detention of a 24-year-old man from Hunan province and his accomplice for their alleged involvement in an instant-messaging heist.
So much had been missing when the victim came home to Shapingba district on January 28, he thought he had the wrong apartment.
Police arrived at the scene, but couldn't help much without video cameras or visitor records. Then a Chongqing resident called police to complain about a purchase gone awry on the Internet.
The vendor offered a cheap price, the buyer said, but couldn't offer a sales receipt for the fancy furniture.
Police asked the businessman if he recalled any suspicious friends. He recalled mentioning his holiday to a friend on Tencent QQ instant messenger.
Checking chat logs, police located the "QQ friend," who allegedly confessed.
