Beijing Capital International Airport said that passengers can use taxi-hailing apps but the cabs must wait for passengers at the parking structure and be charged the same parking fee as public vehicles, the Beijing News reported.
Despite the supervision of the Beijing transportation management authorities, the passenger drop-off area of the airport terminals is now often crowded with cabs called by the taxi-hailing apps. "According to the taxi management rule, [the terminals] do not allow taxis to wait to pick up passengers. But I haven't seen anyone getting fined for it," said cab driver Yang Feng.
On the other hand, the taxi drivers who line up in the official taxi queue often must wait for about 50 minutes before they get a fare. The regulation issued last June stipulated that official taxi-hailing apps can charge up to six yuan per call but prohibits tips.
