A heroic pet dog proved to be a troubled 13-year-old girl's best friend after helping firemen rescue her during a suicide attempt in Chengdu, Sichuan province on Saturday.
The yellow-haired dog, Roman, aided rescuers and her mother in pulling its young owner back from the edge of her apartment building.
The girl was spotted on the roof of their three-story building around 9 am. Neighbors said the girl was distressed due to family issues, according to the report.
Wuhou district firefighters arrived to find the girl at the edge of the roof, with her canine guardian wagging its tail and pacing behind her.
At the sight of the fireman, the girl descended and hung from the roof's edge - her toes barely touching a fence below. Firemen and the girl's mother immediately rushed to the roof to pull her up, while Roman helped drag her up by the shirt.
According to the family's landlord surnamed Tang, Roman was taken in by the girl about six months ago.
He also rarely barks and is friendly with strangers.
