A young woman in Luzhou, Sichuan province, survived a suicide bid on Sunday after she jumped from the fifth floor of an apartment building and got stuck in security bars on a window on the floor below, Western China Metropolis Daily reported.
Wang Weiwei, 21, jumped from her fifth-floor apartment after an argument with her boyfriend, but became entangled in the metal bars on a fourth-floor window that protruded from the building.
The residents of the fourth-floor apartment, Diao Fengqing, a 64-year-old retired teacher, and her 68-year-old husband Ma Gongnong, noticed Liu's legs sticking down through the bars outside their window and raised the alarm.
Diao shouted, "Somebody has jumped off the building," gaining the attention of Tang Yingzhen, 54, who runs a restaurant on the first floor. Zhang Guangfu, a 57-year-old cleaning worker living on the third floor also heard the cry.
Tang climbed up to Diao's window and held the young woman's legs while Zhang went to Diao's windowsill to grab hold of her waist.
Fearing that the iron bars might not be able to hold the woman's weight much longer, Ma secure them with a rope.
The woman was eventually rescued from the window by firefighters. Wang's boyfriend said she jumped after they had an argument.
