Smog halts production

Many factories have temporarily halted or reduced production due to pollution, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

Most of the factories specialize in construction; some have called a halt to production entirely while others have merely slowed down. Food companies such as Lulu, which produces almond milk, and Daoxiangcun, the famous Beijing bakery, have also begun limiting production capacity.

The enterprises are following Beijing's emergency response plan for smoggy days. Fangshan district reported that 13 factories stopped production and 26 reduced production by 30 percent; in Fengtai district, 10 factories stopped production. In Chaoyang district, however, no factories halted production.
