A man in Zhejiang has been posting an advertisement for someone to take care of his bedridden wife in return for a shop and monthly living expenses of 2,000 yuan ($326), zjol.com.cn, the official news website of Zhejiang province, reported.
"I have had cancer for years and my wife has also been sick for years," the advertisement says. "Considering the possible ending (if he dies before his wife), I now want to transfer my wife to someone else. I will give my house (a shop) to him or her and give him or her 2,000 yuan for living costs."
The advertisement gives requirements for those eligible to accept the reward - a female younger than 55 or a male under 60.
The man, only identified as Yu in Wenzhou city, said his shop is worth 600,000 yuan and the monthly 2,000 yuan is from subsidies to him and his wife from his village and the 1,000 yuan rental on the shop.
Yu's wife has epilepsy and is now paralyzed in bed. The report quoted a neighbor of Yu as saying Yu's wife is "almost a vegetable" and he hasn't seen her for more than a decade.
Yu said he found his wife had epilepsy eight days after they married and he took care of her for 36 years.
Yu said he is a dying man and hopes someone can take care of his wife after he dies. Yu's doctor, surnamed Yao, said, however, that Yu doesn't have cancer and his health is not that bad.
Yu said a dozen people have approached him but none have taken his reward.
Yu's attempt to transfer his wife is opposed by his relatives. The advertisement he has been posting for the past six months has often been torn down by his relatives, Yu said.
