This year's saltwater tide ended Tuesday after 23 days, the longest on record, local media reported Thursday.
The salt tide disrupted the water supply for about 2 million residents of Baoshan, Putuo, and Jiading districts, xinmin.cn reported.
The city's water authority said the improved meteorological and hydrological conditions at the estuary, as well as an increased water flow from the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, put an end to the annual phenomenon.
