A man wrongly detained for more than 10 years in Henan province received State compensation of more than 980,000 yuan ($159,150) on Saturday, Dahe daily reported on Monday.
Li Huailiang, the wrongly detained man, was granted compensation of more than 980,000 yuan by Pingdingshan Intermediate People's Court in late December.
Li and his family said the compensation was much lower than they expected and appealed for compensation of 1.47 million yuan. Henan High People's Court upheld the compensation amount on Jan 26.
The 48-year-old was convicted of raping and killing a 13-year-old girl in 2001. During Li's 12-year detention, he stood trial seven times and received three different judgments - 15 years in prison, the death penalty and death with a reprieve.
All three judgments were overturned on April 25, 2013, for lack of evidence, according to the report.
