A woman gave birth at a rainy bus stop in the city of Luoyang, Henan province on Saturday.
The woman was waiting for relatives to arrive when the contractions hit hard about 4 pm, forcing her husband to deliver a 2.4-kilogram daughter on the sidewalk atop an improvised blanket. When a traffic police officer arrived, he found one father, one mother and one newborn baby with umbilical cord still attached.
An ambulance was called while the officer opened his car door to blow warm air onto the mother and the baby. Motorcycle officer Zhao Yi brought an umbrella and helped set up a warmer enclosure for the parent and the child.
When the ambulance arrived, paramedics cut the cord and got them to hospital at 5:25 pm.
"I didn't know what to do at that moment," the husband told the newspaper. "Thanks to the police and their kindness, my wife and my daughter could be safe."
