Primary schools should further alleviate burdens on students by putting off some advanced classes to middle school, expert suggested.
"If the curriculum is too complex for a primary school student, the school should simply pass it on to the middle school curriculum," said Li Ying, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
"People are too impatient for success."
Li said many students are not getting enough sleep, have poor eyesight and are in poor physical condition because of excessive academic burdens.
"Many courses, including mathematics and English, are so complex that some students even create a negative and fearful feeling against the courses at an early age," she said.
Reducing academic burdens will help tap into the potential of a youngster, she said.
