Laser products have been banned from sale in 10 markets in Dongcheng district, the Beijing News reported.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision (GAQS) recently released a warning about the safety hazards of laser products, including laser pens and laser guns for children.
Laser products are classified by seven levels of hazard rating. Toy lasers must fall under Level 1, the lowest standard. The results of a GAQS quality inspection of 60 batches of laser toy guns and laser pens showed that 76.7 percent were Level 2 or higher. The radiant power of three of the batches reached as high as 1,440 megawatts.
