The slow demolition of an illegal rooftop villa has upset neighboring residents who are concerned about the hazard posed by flying debris, the Beijing Morning Post reported.
In August of 2013, Zhang Biqing, who owns a penthouse in the 26-story Renji Shanzhuang complex in Haidian district, promised to tear down the two-story "villa" on the rooftop within 15 days, but the demolition project is still ongoing. The trees, lotus pond and grape trellis have been removed, but some artificial hills and the structure itself remain.
Work is progressing slowly because of concerns that strong winds might blow debris off the building, the difficulty of transporting the rubbish downstairs and work delays during Spring Festival.
