An outbreak of food poisoning at the Shunxin Tianyu construction site in Shunyi district on March 19 resulted in the hospitalization of 115 workers, the Beijing News reported.
According to a worker surnamed Li, the crew complained that the lunch of meatballs, cauliflower, and green pepper had a very sour taste; the catering staff explained that the cook had accidentally substituted vinegar for soy sauce. Within ten minutes of finishing the food, all the workers began vomiting.
A doctor in the emergency room of Shunyi Hospital said the workers were suffering from nitrite poisoning. By the afternoon of March 19, only 30 workers with the most severe symptoms remained in the hospital; the rest had been discharged.
