A woman surnamed Lan was sentenced to six years in jail for intentional homicide by Beijing Third Intermediate People's Court on March 20. She strangled her husband with a shoelace, the Beijing News reported.
Lan attacked her husband after he had gotten drunk and beaten one of their 5-year-old triplets. After strangling her husband, she called the police of her own volition to confess her crime. According to forensic psychologists, Lan's criminal responsibility for the killing was limited because she was suffering from mental disorders. Additionally, the court took into consideration the fact that her husband's behavior had been an aggravating factor for Lan's crime.
The court also ruled that Lan must pay her husband's family more than 30,000 yuan ($4,818) for funeral expenses.
