Beijing police have uncovered more than 410 drug-related cases since Jan 1 and said on Monday that they will continue to give a high profile to cracking down on such crimes.

The police arrested more than 410 suspects in drug-related cases, a 42.2-percent increase year-on-year, and confiscated 31.1 kilograms of drugs, according to a statement of Beijing Public Security Bureau.

The main target of the police was to fight organized drug trafficking, aiming to wipe out the gangs involved from their roots, the statement said.

In February, police in Chaoyang district detained a suspect surnamed Liao who transported about 2.76 kilograms of methamphetamine from Chongqing municipality to Beijing, the statement said.

One month later, police in Fengtai district arrested three people suspected of drug trafficking from Zhejiang province to the capital, the statement said.

The bureau said police had worked with traffic authorities, including airport, railway and bus stations, in a move to reduce cross-region drug trafficking.
