Police seized 453 replica guns and 5,100 pellets in a sudden operation to inspect stores around a primary school in the county town of Jianshi, Hubei province, on Friday, according to people.com.cn.
Fu Tianxing, a police officer, said the replica guns seized could seriously injure people and destroy windows, TV sets and other property.
"Many students used to arrive at the stores to purchase the guns after school," Fu told media.
According to relevant laws and social security regulations, illegal production and sales of replica guns are prohibited.
Fu urged those who have purchased the replica guns and have them at home to hand the pellet guns to local police.
