A man in Southwest China's Sichuan province counterfeited a deposit receipt to give to his wife after he withdrew the money from their bank account.
The ruse was discovered by the man's wife on March 20 when she went to a bank in Dazhou city to withdraw money. The bank workers called the police after confirming the receipt was a fake, Western China Metropolis Daily reported.
The woman insisted the receipt was real and said she received it from her husband six months ago.
Her husband later admitted to police he counterfeited the receipt to trick his wife because he had spent all of the 80,000 yuan (12,880) in their account, the report said.
