CPC leaders vow high standards in anti-decadence campaign

Senior leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) have vowed to implement high standards in the Party's anti-decadence campaign to raise officials' ideological levels and bring about changes to their work style.

Party officials are ordered to treat organizational discipline as a lifeline. Chief leaders in Party committees are asked to play a leading role in conducting self-analysis in a manner that does not take into account who they are and makes criticism sessions demanding, according to an official statement released on Sunday.

As part of the second round of a CPC campaign to improve Party-people relations and deter harmful work styles, each of the seven Standing Committee members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee was allocated a county to supervise its progress recently.

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, has been paired with Lankao county. Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan, Wang Qishan and Zhang Gaoli, are taking charge of supervision work in counties respectively in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and provinces of Fujian, Yunnan, Shaanxi, Shandong and Jilin.

The second phase of the mass line campaign is scheduled to run from January to September, targeting more low-level departments and leaderships, while the first phase was focused on central and provincial-level departments.

According to the statement, all Standing Committee members of the Political Bureau have underlined the significance of the campaign's second phase.

Cities, counties, townships and villages are important bases for consolidating the CPC's ruling status and basis, and modernization of China's governance system and capacity cannot be achieved without improvements from low-level departments and leaderships, the statement notes.

The public pay more attention to grassroots CPC officials and members when assessing the work style of the Party and government as they are large in number and have more direct contact with the people, it reads

Senior CPC leaders require Party officials to conduct self-examination and self-introspection while taking into consideration prominent problems of their localities and workplaces and suggestions put forward by the people.

CPC officials should take the lead to "leave the high-rises, step out of their mansions and reach out to the public and sit with them on the same bench to collect their suggestions," according to the statement.

CPC officials should "take the masses as their teachers and seek advice from them," it adds.

Improving work style should never be empty talk and it should have a purpose and its efficiency should be improved, the statement adds.

Senior leaders also told county-level CPC officials to integrate their efforts in implementing the mass line campaign with local reform and economic development.
